"Amvets the world over should have a soft spot in their heart for St Petersburg, for here it was created the first ever AmVets was created!"

St Petersburg Florida has the distinction of being home to the first ever chartered American Veterans organization.

We were organized in 1943 and chartered on December 22nd of 1943.

Post 1 was a integral part in the organization and founding of the National AmVets Organization, helping to organize group's from several States to meet in Kansas City, Missouri where the National American Veterans Organization was formed and accepted on December 22 1944.
